Till the Conference

This one-and-a-half-day conference, initiated by the Rotary Club of Malé, has now been recognized as an official event of the District 3220 Chapter of the Rotary Means Business Fellowship of Rotary International. The conference aims to foster new partnerships in trade and commerce between Sri Lanka and the Maldives while providing a platform for the Rotary community to establish meaningful networking links. Through this initiative, Rotarians and their potential partners can access valuable guidance, assistance, and facilitation to explore collaborative opportunities.

In addition to potential partners exploring trade and commerce opportunities, prominent businesses and their representatives from the southern atolls of the Maldives will participate in the conference. They will showcase their products, share their expertise, and contribute their insights to facilitate meaningful business engagements.

Why the Southern Maldives?

While prominent businesses from both Sri Lanka and the Maldives have long cultivated formal and informal trade relationships, these engagements have traditionally been centered around Malé, the capital of the Maldives. Recognizing the untapped opportunities beyond this commercial hub, Rotary Club of Malé envisions a future where economic and trade ties extend to the southern atolls of the Maldives, fostering new avenues for collaboration and growth.

Separated by a vast expanse of ocean, the southern atolls of Huvadhoo, Fuvahmulah, and Addu stand out for their geographical expanse, growing population, and rich natural resources. Despite this immense potential, these regions remain relatively underexplored in the realm of international trade and commerce.

With SriLankan Airlines now operating direct flights to Gan International Airport in Addu Atoll, the southern Maldives is more accessible than ever. This enhanced connectivity presents a compelling opportunity to forge meaningful business partnerships, expand trade networks, and unlock new economic prospects.

Against this backdrop, and with the steadfast support of the Addu City Council, the management of Gan International Airport, and the leadership of a premier resort, Rotary Club of Malé has chosen Herathera Island in Addu Atoll as the venue for this pivotal Business Conference. This initiative marks a significant step toward integrating the southern Maldives into the broader regional economic landscape, ensuring sustainable and mutually beneficial relationships.
